The best calendar apps do a good job presenting your schedule no matter how you want to view it. They make it easy to understand your day and to plan out the weeks and months ahead.

Google”s app store is filled with a ton of strange, dense, and downright challenging calendar apps designed for some mythical, godlike superuser. The Winner

Our review of Google Calendar (Android)

Verge Score 8.2 out of 10

Amelia Krales The app has viewing options that’ll please everyone, and Google makes it easy to jump between them without digging through menus. This is great if you want to quickly dive into a broader or more detailed view of your schedule. Google Calendar is also the only Android app I tested that supports natural language-style event entry (“Lunch with Dan on Wednesday at Two Boots”), which is a huge advantage if you’re frequently making plans while mobile.

There are still some areas that Google Calendar could do better. Integration with third-party apps, like Sunrise used to have, would make it much more flexible for serious digital organizers. And the ability to add helpful calendars, like sports schedules, and to view embedded maps seem like obvious and simple additions.

The Others

Calendars are a utility and Business Calendar 2 very much treats them like one, with a spartan (that is, kind of ugly) look, but some great, easy-to-read viewing options. One excellent feature: the ability to toggle groups of calendars on and off without switching screens — perfect for people with way too many shared work calendars.

Our review of Tapir Apps aCalendar (Android)

Verge Score 7.3 out of 10

If you”re looking for density and speed, aCalendar could be a good choice. The app lets you flip side to side between a bunch of different viewing options, including a really interesting split day / week / reminder view.

Our review of E-sites WAVE Calendar (Android)

Verge Score 7.1 out of 10

Wave is a good-looking calendar app that just doesn”t do much to stand out. It has some great view options, including a really clean split agenda and month view, and it lets you subscribe to interesting calendars for $1.34 a piece. It”s clean and easy to read, but a bit too slow to navigate.

Our review of Microsoft Outlook (Android)

Verge Score 7 out of 10

Outlook is where Sunrise”s remains live on. And if you must have Sunrise”s interface, then Outlook is a fine choice. But it”s lost most of Sunrise”s standout features. And since it”s just a tab inside another app, getting a look at your calendar sometimes takes an extra, annoying tap.

Our review of Kakao Corp SolCal (Android)

Verge Score 6.8 out of 10

SolCal is really fast and an excellent choice if you like agenda and month views, since it lets you quickly flip back and forth between the two of them. But it”s missing other common viewing options, and sometimes weird emoji show up your calendar and it”s not clear what”s going on.

Our review of Appxy Tiny Calendar (Android)

Verge Score 6.5 out of 10

Tiny Calendar is a no-frills, stripped-down calendar app, and it”s a solid choice if you find something to like in one of its many clean and readable views. Unfortunately, moving between those views isn”t as quick as in other apps; and Tiny Calendar really sticks to the basics, without natural language support or other flairs.

Our review of Any.DO Cal (Android)

Verge Score 6 out of 10

Cal is a minimalist calendar build around an agenda view. Unfortunately, it isn”t particularly easy to read, despite its minimalism, and moving around the app is hampered by some extremely slow animations.

Our review of Jorte (Android)

Verge Score 0.3 out of 10

Jorte sometimes makes lists of “best Android calendar apps,” but I”m here to tell you that this is a sadistic lie. Never have I been so lost in or bewildered by an app”s interface. It”s just straight up impossible to use.
